Poetry

I like poetry, I like to read it and wonder where the poet found his or her inspiration. I have had sporadic attempts to write poetry, but my talents? appear to lie in other directions. A few days ago I was sorting through my photographs and decided to see if I could illustrate one of my favourite poems. See what you think of my efforts. The poets name is W H Davies.
What is this life if full of care, we have no time to stand and stare.
No time to stand beneath the boughs,
And stare as long as sheep or cows.
No time to see when woods we pass, where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.
No time to see in broad daylight, streams full of stars like skies at night.

No time to turn at beauty's glance,
And watch her feet how they can dance
No time to wait till her mouth can, enrich that smile her eyes began
A poor life this if full of care, we have no time to stand and stare.

Our Garden

Hi There. These are two of the residents of our garden, the larger one is making for the pond to join quite a few others in preparation for spawning, the smaller one is sitting on our back step during a rain storm.

The pond has now blended well into the garden and all the plants are growing and establishing themselves, the pond plants have grown and spread so thickly that the tadpoles are no longer visible.

This is a seat that I constructed with a small section in the centre for holding cups and other essential things, the trellis is to enable climbing plants to grow up and over the seat.

This is one of the shrubs that were already in the garden, at the moment I have no idea what it is called.

Our Garden

Hi There After removing all the grass, we then began laying flagstones and creating small borders at the sides of the garden. In order to do this I had already cut back some of the overgrown shrubs and trees, whilst doing this I discovered a small concrete pond in the corner hiding behind a very neglected tree. I trimmed the tree to a more normal shape and then decided to build a wooden enclosure around the pond, there were two reasons for this, we could grow plants round the pond, and it would give access to and from the pond for the frogs, of which we had quite a few.

This is how the pond looked after being eclosed in wood, quite bare and uninteresting.

A little more pleasing to the eye perhaps.

The gravel has now been laid and we scattered glass beads and marbles of varying colours and shapes to catch the light and add a bit of sparkle to the garden.

This is a small water feature which I added to the pond as we like the sound of running water.

Our Garden

Hi There When we moved into our new home this was how the back garden looked, now I love a challenge as much as the next person, but this was a disaster area. The pictures do not really show how horrible it was.

All that grass and weeds just had to go. I remember once reading an article which stated that a weed was just a plant in the wrong place, Ha: not in my garden.
We wanted the garden to be a place of relaxation and tranquility, and also fairly labour saving, as I did not want to spend all my time gardening

My stepson came to help and we removed all of the grass and the weeds, this took the whole of one very long and very tiring day.
